As CEO of Atlanta Life Financial Group (ALFG), Taggart led the transformation of the 110 year old firm that resulting in profits increasing over 700%, net margins growing from 3% to 24%, while doubling the firm's total equity and reinstituting the corporate dividend toshareholders.
Prior to joining Atlanta Life Financial Group, Taggart served as Chief Operating Officer for the Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA), appointed by U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. During his tenure, Taggart successfully led FSA through the most significant period of growth in its history. Taggart grew federal aid to 15 million college students from $96 to $150 billion dollars annually. In addition, Taggart led an agency transformation that resulted in cost savings of $68 billion dollars over 10 years. FSA's current loan portfolio that exceeds $1 trillion dollars and services over 92+ million loans across 30+ millionborrowers.
Taggart’s experience also includes several leadership posts with WachoviaCorporation, First Union Corporation and International Business Machines(IBM).
Taggart, an Atlanta native, earned his BBA from Howard University and receivedMBA from Harvard Business School. He also holds an honorary doctorate in business from Morris BrownCollege.
He is active in various business and civic organizations to include: Atlanta Business League, 100 Black Men of America, The Carter Center, Woodruff Arts Center and Children Healthcare of Atlanta. In addition, Taggart is a life member of National Black MBA Association and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,Incorporated..
